Reports have been swirling in Monrovia of very strained relations between the Liberian President and his Deputy.
But the office of the Vice President had assured Liberians of a cordial working relationship with the office of the President.
In a recent manifestation of their strained relations, President Weah has moved to strip oversight responsibilities of the National Lottery and National association of disabled persons from the office of his Vice President who is also President of the Liberian Senate.
Madam Jewel Howard Taylor, a Former Senator and ex wife of former rebel leader turned former President of Liberia joined a coalition effort with Weah’s Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) in the last Presidential elections and was elected as Vice President.
Vice President’s Letter Invitation
The invitation letter from the organizers of the international women’s conference requested Madam Taylor to set up a delegation of two female Parliamentarians to attend the conference.
A source says the intentional leak of the Vice President’s invitation letter and itinerary communication to President Weah is an attempt by the Vice President to exert her independence.
